CALL FOR PARTICIPATION - PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY

I would like to welcome you all to participate at the 7th
Australasian User Interface Conference, to be held in Hobart,
Tasmania in January 2006. I would particularly like to welcome
overseas guests to come visit Australia and participate in the
conference, as we have a very interesting program covering a wide
range of research areas, and with speakers from many countries. The
AUIC conference is part of Australasian Computer Science Week, which
contains a number of other conferences such as ACSC, ACE, ADC, AUIC,
CATS, and APCCM.

- PAPERS -

This year we had a record number of submissions to the conference,
giving a strong conference program covering a wide range of topics.
The program has 16 long papers, and 10 short papers, arranged into 8
sessions:

- Augmented Reality
- Documents and Layout
- Evaluations and Studies
- Graphical Interfaces
- Mobile Devices
- Ubiquitous Workspaces
- Visualisation Techniques
- Wearable sensing

- KEYNOTE -

I am also pleased to announce that Professor Tom Furness will be
presenting the keynote address for AUIC. The talk is titled "A Quest
For The Ultimate Interface", and is based on Tom's 40 years of
experience in exploring and designing user interface technology. We
are very honoured to have him attend the conference and to share his
insight, and I invite you to attend the conference so you can share
in this too.

- DEMOS -

This year we will also be running a dedicated demonstration session,
where attendees can setup equipment to demonstrate the research they
are working on, and discuss it with the other participants. Feel free
to bring just a laptop, or even larger equipment to show during the
session. It is advised that if you plan on presenting a demo that you
email the conference chair so that we can plan for space requirements.

- MORE INFORMATION -

Please visit the AUIC web site at http://auic.tinmith.net for
detailed information about the conference, as well as links to the
ACSW main page. There is a wide range of information about
registration, things to do in Hobart, hotel and travel information,
and the social program for the conference.

- ABOUT AUIC -

The Australasian User Interface Conference (AUIC) is a technology-
focused forum for user interface researchers and practitioners from
Australia and New Zealand, and throughout the world. The conference,
which is one of several conferences that constitute the Australasian
Computer Science Week, provides an opportunity for workers in the
areas of HCI, CSCW, and pervasive computing to meet with colleagues
and with others in the broader computer science community.

AUIC invites participation and submissions from researchers and
practitioners with an interest in techniques, tools, and technology
for improving user interfaces over a wide range of areas, including
the following:

- User interface architectures, tools, techniques, and technology.
- Innovative applications and user interfaces, including VR,
multimedia, and adaptive interfaces
- Distributed interfaces, including the World Wide Web
- Ambient and highly mobile devices (PDAs, wearable computers)
- CSCW, group work, groupware, and computer-mediated human communication
- HCI education

All papers in the proceedings of ACSW conferences (including AUIC)
are archived in the ACM Digital Library, and each AUIC paper is
reviewed by an international program committee. As with previous
years, registration to the Australasian User Interface Conference
will enable delegates to attend sessions in any conference
participating in the Australasian Computer Science Week.

- CONCLUSION -

Please visit the conference web site at http://auic.tinmith.net and
follow the links to register for the conference. I look forward to
seeing you at the conference!

regards,
Wayne
