The Pattern Recognition and Image Processing (PRIP) Group of the
Vienna University of Technology and the Austrian Computer Society (OCG)
invites authors and guests to the 1st EVA conference in Vienna, 
Austria, August 27th - August 30th, 2006. The Workshop is endorsed by 
the TC19 Computer Vision for Cultural Heritage Applications of the 
International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR).

The main aim of this first EVA Event in Vienna is to create a forum
for discussions between the cultural heritage research community, 
technology researchers and cultural institutions. Our main mission 
is to establish new technical tools for experts in the cultural 
heritage field. The accompanying motto of this conference is "Digital 
Cultural Heritage ^Ö Essential for Tourism". The conference will focus 
on image analysis, cultural tourism, speech and communication in cultural
heritage, archaeography, and museum and archaeological applications. 
The focus will be on both applied work as well as theoretical advances.


TOPICS OF INTERESTS
===================

Topics include, but are not limited to:

o Advanced technical tools for experts in the field of cultural heritage 
  - Computer vision applications in cultural heritage 
  - Infrared imaging and analysis 
  - Spectral imaging and analysis 
  - 2D/3D reconstruction 
  - Texture modeling 

o Cultural tourism 

o Speech and communication in cultural heritage 

o Archaeography (analysis of historical documents) 

o Museum applications 
  - Presentation of cultural content with multimedia tools 
  - Design methods for cultural heritage documentation systems 
    and components 

o Archaeological applications 
  - Reassembly of artifacts from fragments 
  - Shape representation for free-form modeling (statues, bones, etc.) 
  - Automated archaeological site recording from video 
  - Excavation's historical documentation from multimedia data 
  - Vision-based augmented reality for site exploration
  - Shape-based completion for preservation and/or recovery 
  - 3D object geometry, surface painting and relief matched across
    archaeological sites 


PAPER SUBMISSION
================

Prospective authors are invited to contribute to the conference by
electronically submitting a full paper in English of no more than 6
pages including illustrations, results and references (submissions can
be made at http://www.eva-vienna.at/submission.html). It will also be possible 
to publish papers longer than 8 pages, however, an extra page fee 
will apply. Each paper will be reviewed by at least three members 
of the program committee. The contributions to EVA Vienna 2006 will be published
in the book-series of the Austrian Computer Society. Therefore, submissions 
should be in ^Ópdf^Ô format in accordance with the OCG publication guidelines.
Templates for Word and Latex are available
(http://www.ocg.at/publikationen/books/indexengl.html).
For submission the manuscript should not contain the authors' names and 
affiliations for double blind reviewing. In addition to the manuscript, 
the submission should include a summary page with title, authors' names, 
affiliation and address, telephone, fax and e-mail, up to three keywords 
and answers to the following questions (please answer each separately):

1. What is the original contribution of this work?
2. Why should this contribution be considered important?
3. What is the most closely related work by others and how does this
   work differ?
4. How can other researchers make use of the results of this work?
5. Has this work been presented/submitted elsewhere?
6. Which form of presentation is preferred: Oral or Poster?


WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
==================

EVA Vienna 2006 provides the option to hold workshops on additional
topics. Workshops will be held on Sunday, August 27th, 2006 and Wednesday, 
August 30th, 2006. Proposals for workshops must include a title, an 
outline of the workshop and its motivation, contact information for 
the organizer, and a short description of the material to be covered. 
Proposals for workshops should be submitted to Robert Sablatnig
(sab@prip.tuwien.ac.at)before February 28th, 2006.
