========
Overview
========

Image and video storage and retrieval continue to be one of the most exciting and
fastest-growing research areas in the field of multimedia technology. However, opportunities
for the exchange of ideas between different groups of researchers, and between researchers
and potential users of image/video retrieval systems, are still limited. The ACM International
Conference on Image and Video Retrieval (CIVR) series was originally set up
to illuminate the state of the art in image and video retrieval between researchers and
practitioners throughout the world. This conference aims to provide an international forum
for the discussion of challenges in the fields of image and video retrieval. ACM-CIVR2007 is
seeking original high quality submissions addressing innovative research in the broad field
of image and video retrieval. A unique feature of the conference is the high level of
participation from practitioners. Application papers and presentations suitable for a wide
audience are therefore particularly welcome.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

   * Content-based indexing, search, and retrieval of images and videos
   * Semantic-based indexing, search, and retrieval of images and videos
   * Affect-based indexing, search, and retrieval of images and videos
   * Advanced descriptors and similarity metrics for images, audio and video
   * Learning and relevance feedback in image/video retrieval
   * 3D images and models
   * Ontologies for annotation and search of images and videos
   * Fusion of multimedia data sources
   * Image/video summarization and visualization
   * Multimodal human computer interaction
   * Evaluation of image and video retrieval systems
   * Studies of information-seeking behavior among image/video users
   * Query models, paradigms, and languages for image/video retrieval
   * Database architectures for image/video retrieval
   * Novel image data management systems and applications
   * High performance image/video indexing algorithms
   * Image/video search and browsing on the Web
   * Retrieval from multimodal lifelogs
   * Applications in broadcast, web, cultural heritage,
     satellite, forensic, and (bio-)medical image and video collections

Besides regular paper submissions we are asking for submissions of special sessions
and technical demos.

==========
Venue
==========

University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The conference will be held in the Old
Lutheran Church where during the academic year the PhD Ceremonies are being held.
The conference venue is a traditional conference location in the historical city
center of Amsterdam and has several auditoria for oral presentations and additional
space for poster presentations.

=========================
Airport and Accessibility
=========================

Amsterdam is a major hub for the whole of Europe. Schiphol International Airport,
located about 15 kilometers (10 miles) from the centre of Amsterdam, has direct scheduled
connections to many cities in the world. Since Schiphol Railway Station is located in
the arrival/departure building of the airport, the centre of Amsterdam can be reached
by train easily in approximately 20 minutes. Apart from taxis, there are frequent train
connections (approximately every 15 minutes throughout the day) from Schiphol Airport to
Amsterdam Central Station, from where you can take a taxi or tram to your hotel or to the
conference venue.
