ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing:
Theme issue Visualization and Exploration of Geospatial Data

Guest editors:
Jochen Schiewe (University of Osnabrueck, Germany)
Marguerite Madden (The University of Georgia, U.S.A.)
Planned publication date: Spring, 2008

Visualization advancements now allow virtual displays
of the landscape in high detail operating both on
the desktop and on the World Wide Web. From global
scales of worldwide processes to fine-scale views of
cities, buildings and interiors, visualization techniques
are being used to interactively explore spatial structures
and processes, create virtual realities, demonstrate
possible outcomes from management scenarios, take
part in decision making, look back in time to "see"
landscapes before human activity and provide input for
location based services.

This theme issue focuses on recent advances in
landscape visualization techniques and applications
focusing on the use of remotely sensed and derived data.
Some of the topics to be addressed in this issue
include (but are not limited to):
  New geovisualization methods for presenting and
exploring structures and processes from geospatial
data;
  3D, 4D and real-time visualization techniques,
including façade texturing for rendering 3D city
models;
  Geovisualization of geospatial data reliability and
uncertainty;
  Application of geovisualization techniques, e.g. for
environmental, planning and emergency response
tasks;
  Technical advancements and methods for representing
geospatial data on various end user devices (such
as mobile telephones or PDAs);
  Empirical investigations concerning psychological
aspects of presenting geospatial data and cognitive
learning from geovisualizations.

Papers must be original contributions, not previously
published in or submitted to other journals. Papers
published or submitted for publication in conference
proceedings can be considered to the extent that they are
considerably extended and improved. Substantive
research and relevant-for-practice papers will be preferred.
Papers must follow the instructions for authors
described at http://www.itc.nl/isprsjournal. Please submit
the full manuscript to http://ees.elsevier.com/photo
by August 31, 2007.
