Signal Processing: Image Communication
Special issue on:

"Semantic Analysis for Interactive Multimedia Services"
The demand for efficient methods for extracting knowledge from
multimedia content has led to a growing research community and a
number of European, national and industrial projects in this
area. Technologies for retrieving semantic information from multimedia
content potential enable new applications and services for both
commercial and personal end users. The aim of this special issue is to
provide an overview of current research in the area of semantic
analysis for multimedia applications including both theory and
application oriented papers.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Multimedia content analysis and understanding
Content-based browsing, indexing and retrieval of images, video and audio
Analysis for coding efficiency and increased error resilience
Analysis and understanding tools for personalization and content adaptation
Analysis and social content applications
Content summarization and personalization strategies
Semantic mapping and ontologies
Identification and tracking of semantic regions in scenes
Multimedia analysis for advanced applications
Important Dates:
Submission of papers: 1 October 2007
Submission of final accepted papers: 14 March 2008
Publication of special issue: May 2008

Submissions:
All the papers should be full journal length versions and follow the
guidelines set out by Signal Processing: Image Communication
(http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/505651/authorinstructions). Submissions

than October 1, 2007.
